Conference
Theme
The
Theme of Healing feels to be a very pertinent subject,
partly because of the ancient history of the lyre, and partly
because it continues the ‘Community Building’ theme
of Lyre 2003, and seems more important than ever in today’s
world.
We have many
interesting offers of workshops on the theme from round the world,
and trust that you, the participants, will find some of particular
interest. This theme is of importance to us all, not just the
lyre players involved in therapy etc. The lyre, unlike any other
musical instrument has a healing quality implicit within it, and
has a message for all who hear it.
Healing
with the lyre
The ancient lyre was always associated with healing
and spirituality. The ancient Greeks could prescribe one note
to be played on the lyre to heal an illness. We have now lost
much of that profound wisdom, but lyre music today is instantly
recognisable as soothing and relaxing. The modern lyre was originally
introduced into Camphill Communities for therapeutic uses, and
although its usage has now extended into a more social setting,
the healing, soothing quality of the instrument still shines through.
The workshops during the conference will aim to
demonstrate the many ways that the lyre can be used as a healing
instrument. Many aspects are still being developed, discovered
and translated, and we will hope that our workshops will be able
to inform and inspire you to recognise and work with this special
quality of the lyre.
Tuning
– We will tune at the healing frequency of A=432hz.
