‘Healing
Harmonies’ - Anna Prokhovnik Cooper B.A. Dip.Ed.
As a professional musician and
teacher, I began this business 7 years ago when I became self-employed.
My inspiration was the lyre, and my dawning realisation of its myriad
of possibilities. I felt this wonderful instrument had been locked
away for long enough, and I wanted to present it to the wider community,
to enjoy, to learn, and to heal.
Seven years on, I realise my
ambitions have been fulfilled, in more ways than I ever could have
thought of. Because of the unique qualities of lyre music, people
always experience a therapeutic relaxing, soothing effect when listening
(or playing!). This leads to a very holistic experience, not only
of enjoying the music, but of regulating breathing, and balancing
the body in an unconscious way.
My work now includes:-
1. Teaching 7-10 yr old children
in an ‘integrated’ primary school and an after school
club. Using 27 string lyres and 12 string pentatonic lyres.
2. Teaching people with special needs the lyre (35 string) to various
degrees.
3. Singing sessions with special needs people, accompanied by lyre,
and using percussion instruments, followed by relaxation listening
to lyre music.
4. Playing the lyre in hospitals and hospices, on the wards.
5. Therapeutic sound work for the deaf, using the lyre, and other
instruments ( mainly percussion)
6. Assistant director of the Celtic
Lyre Orchestra ( including special needs people), and Director of
the Celtic Lyre Ensemble, playing concerts, receptions and weddings
etc.
